Why is it that:
Tommy Lee Jones can stop a volcano from destroying much of Los Angeles?
Jake Gyllenhall and Dennis Quaid can protect the world from global warming (or whatever that movie was about)?
Helen Hunt and Bill Pullman (along with countless others) can survive 6 or 7 tornados throughout one day in the same 100 mile radius?
Not a single one of those people...or anyone else could stop the horrible destruction that was Katrina?
Could it be that disaster movies aren't true-to-life?
But seriously, why can't we do anything to minimize the damage caused by hurricanes? Why are natural disasters so fucking disastrous? I know I'll never know. The only thing I know is that something like this can never be a Movie of the Week. "Why not?" you may ask. Because there is no one hero. The heroes are the ones who are providing shelter to the homeless, and food to the hungry. Community efforts to be resilient are not the things of movies. But maybe they should be...
